overview

Overview

Technology Wisdom partnered with GIZ and AUDA-NEPAD to digitize the Service Delivery Mechanism (SDM), a strategic initiative supporting cross-border infrastructure projects across Africa.

The project transformed a largely manual, document-driven process into a centralized digital platform that streamlines project evaluation, stakeholder collaboration, workflow management, reporting, and decision-making.

The resulting platform enables project owners, experts, financiers, and SDM teams to collaborate through a structured digital environment while improving transparency, efficiency, and process governance across the project lifecycle.

The Challenge

The Service Delivery Mechanism (SDM) was established to support early-stage cross-border infrastructure projects throughout Africa.

Before digitization, many SDM processes relied heavily on manual coordination, spreadsheets, documentation, emails, meetings, and disconnected digital resources.

Managing project evaluations, stakeholder communication, project tracking, advisory services, documentation, reporting, and approvals across multiple organizations created significant operational complexity.

The challenge was not simply building software.

The challenge was translating a complex multi-stakeholder operational framework into a practical digital platform that could support real-world infrastructure development activities across different countries, organizations, and user groups.

Key challenges included:

  • Manual and fragmented project management processes
  • Multiple stakeholder groups with different operational requirements
  • Integration with existing AUDA-NEPAD systems and databases
  • Complex project evaluation workflows
  • Large volumes of legacy project data
  • Evolving business requirements during implementation
  • Governance and role-based access requirements
  • Need for transparency, accountability, and auditability
The Context

Our Approach

Technology Wisdom adopted an iterative and highly collaborative implementation approach.

Instead of waiting for every requirement to become fully defined, our team worked closely with stakeholders to identify what was clearly understood, implement validated functionality, and continuously refine the platform through structured feedback cycles.

The project involved extensive workshops, stakeholder consultations, requirement refinement sessions, architecture planning, user experience design, development, testing, training, and deployment activities.

This approach helped maintain project momentum despite evolving requirements and differing stakeholder expectations.

Our Approach

key Learnings

Founder Perspective

“The real challenge is aligning people, processes, governance, and technology into a system that can function in the real world.”

“Digital transformation projects often fail when organizations focus only on technology.”

“SDM was a particularly interesting project because it involved multiple stakeholders, evolving requirements, legacy processes, and complex operational realities. Our team had to balance technical implementation with business understanding, stakeholder engagement, and continuous adaptation throughout the project lifecycle.”

“What makes me proud of this project is not simply the software we delivered, but our ability to help transform a complex operational framework into a practical digital platform that supports infrastructure development initiatives across Africa.”

Muhammad Faisal Nisar, Founder & CEO
